International Schools in and around Benahavís

Relocating to Benahavís with children is often one of the biggest — and most emotional — parts of a move to southern Spain.

The good news is that families here are genuinely well served by a wide choice of international, bilingual and Spanish schools, all within a short drive of the main neighbourhoods of Benahavís.

Whether you’re looking for a British or IB pathway, a bilingual transition, or full Spanish immersion, you’ll find established schools across Nueva Andalucía, San Pedro, Atalaya and Marbella.

For younger children, there’s also the highly regarded local option of CEIP Daidín, the public primary school located right in Benahavís village.

How Families Typically Choose a School

Most families don’t start by asking “which school is best?” — they start by asking which school fits our child, our timeline and our long-term plans. From our experience helping buyers relocate to Benahavís, a few factors consistently shape the final decision.

Curriculum is usually the first consideration. British schools (IGCSEs and A-Levels) suit families planning a return to the UK or Commonwealth systems, while the IB pathway offers flexibility for university destinations worldwide. Spanish ESO and Bachillerato are ideal for long-term integration in Spain.

Timing matters more than many expect. Admissions for September typically open between January and April, and popular year groups can fill quickly. Mid-year entry is sometimes possible, but availability varies — early enquiries make a real difference.

Location and daily logistics are equally important. Most international schools operate private bus services covering Benahavís, La Quinta, Los Arqueros, Atalaya and San Pedro, which removes much of the stress from the school run.

Finally, families often look beyond academics. Pastoral care, language support for newcomers, SEN provision,
and opportunities in sport, arts and music all play a role — especially during the first year of settling into Spain.

Spotlight: Atalaya International College

Atalaya International College (AIC)
is one of the most popular choices for families living in and around Benahavís. Set just below La Alquería, it offers a clear British-to-IB pathway and a genuinely international school community.

Parents often highlight the ease of the school run from La Alquería, Capanes del Golf, Atalaya, and El Paraíso Alto, with most journeys taking under ten minutes.

AIC is also known for its strong language provision and supportive admissions team - particularly helpful for families arriving mid-year or transitioning from another country.

A Local Alternative: CEIP Daidín

CEIP Daidín
is the public primary school serving Benahavís village. It teaches children from early years through age 12 (Infantil and Primaria) under the Spanish national curriculum.

For families planning a long-term life in Spain, CEIP Daidín offers a gentle and effective route into Spanish language and culture. Class sizes are small, the atmosphere is personal, and children quickly become part of village life.

After primary education, pupils typically continue to secondary schools in nearby San Pedro. Many international families choose CEIP Daidín for early years before transitioning to an international secondary later on.

Fees, School Year & Daily Logistics

International school fees are normally billed termly and usually sit outside the Spanish state system. Extras such as lunches, uniforms and transport are typically charged separately.

The academic year generally runs from September to June, divided into three terms, with most schools offering optional summer programmes.

Dedicated school buses operate throughout Benahavís and the surrounding urbanisations, making day-to-day routines far easier for families without relying on multiple car journeys.

Where Families Often Choose to Live

School choice and home choice are closely linked. Families prioritising AIC and Mayfair often look toward La Alquería, Atalaya, Capanes del Golf, and El Paraíso.

Those favouring Aloha College frequently settle in La Quinta or Los Arqueros, while families choosing CEIP Daidín often enjoy the walkable lifestyle of Benahavís village itself.
